English Premier League giants Manchester City are interested to sign Spanish International Martin Zubimendi from La Liga outfit Real Sociedad.
A native of San Sebastian, Zubimendi joined the academy of Real Sociedad at a very early age. He then was promoted to the club’s C team in 2016.
In 2018, Zubimendi signed a contract renewal with Real Sociedad and joined the B team of the club. But within a few days, he was included in the first team dynamics and started to get chances on the senior side. The Spaniard grabbed his chances with both hands and established himself in the starting lineup.
He became one of the mainstays in the squad and played a pivotal part in Real Sociedad’s Copa Del Rey victory in the 2019-20 season. Zubimendi then made his Spanish national team debut against Lithuania when the Spanish u-21 was called up following a covid-19 outbreak in the senior team camp. The defensive midfielder then played for the Spanish team that won silver in the last Olympics in Tokyo.

According to a report from Fichajes, defending English Premier League champions Manchester City are interested to acquire the signings Martin Zubimendi from Spanish club Real Sociedad.
Under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City have accumulated one of the strongest squads in the World. they have multiple good players in every position. However, they might lose one/two central midfielders in the upcoming window.
Club captain Ilkay Gundogan is in the final year of his contract. There are still no reports of him getting a contract extension.
Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva wants a move to Spain. The most possible destination is Barcelona. The Catalans tried to sign the midfielder this season itself but failed to do so. And now it is understood that they will once again try to sign him next summer.
Meanwhile, since his signing Kalvin Phillips has not done much to impress the Spaniard. Phillips though is currently injured and out for a long duration. Hence Manchester City are looking at multiple midfielders. Zubimendi is now the latest name on this list.
The midfielder however recently signed a contract renewal with his club Real Sociedad which will keep him at his club till 2027. This however should not stop monitoring him. Zubimendi currently has a €60 million release clause in his contract which is well within City’s reach.
Meanwhile, Barcelona is also hugely interested in Zubmiendi. They see him as the ideal replacement for club captain Sergio Busquets.
So if Manchester City wants to sign the midfielder, they will have to move fast for it.
