Manchester City News: Tactics from Both Side
Bruno Lage set a 4-3-3 formation with new signing Guedes in the middle and Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence on the wing to lead the attack.
On the other side, Pep Guardiola used the same 4-3-3 formation with his squad’s full strength. Haaland led the attack with Foden and Grealish on the wing. Silva and De Bruyne both dictated the game from the midfield.
Match Day Activity
In this match at Molineux Stadium, City led the scoreline from the 1st minute with Grealish’s goal from De Bruyne’s nice pass from the right wing. In the 3rd minute of the game, Neto also looked very threatening, but his shot was saved by Ederson.
Haaland did not wait for long to add his name to the score sheet. The Norwegian’s goal came in the 15th minute from Bernardo’s pass. In the 32nd minute, Collins saw a red card after committing a foul on Grealish. Before halftime, the game was already decided.
In the second half, the Wolves were not able to cause any problems for the City players. But Foden scored a 69th-minute goal to wrap up the victory from De Bruyne’s pass.
De Bruyne was the best player on the pitch with his two assists, and Neto was the best player on the field from the Wolves side.
The blue Manchester almost maintained 60 percent of the possession with over 90 percent passing accuracy. Out of 16 shots, Haaland and his teammates put 7 shots on target and scored 3 goals.
Wolves maintained a decent form against the champions. They maintained 40 percent of possession with 83.6 percent passing accuracy. But they were not able to crack City’s defense. They miserably had 1 shot on target out of 6 shots. They were also in a disadvantageous position because of an early red card.
Reaction from Pep & Grealish
In the post-match interview, Guardiola praised his record signing Jack Grealish: “He played really good and strong, a good goal arriving there, he doesn’t lose the ball and good performance for me. Hopefully, he can continue in the national team and come back fit.”
While speaking to BT Sport, Grealish said: “I did enjoy it.” He also defended his lack of goals and assists, as he added: “I should be scoring more and getting more assists. The only thing I can do is that and I am going to have people talking about me for the money I was bought for but if you look at my career, at Aston Villa I only got a few goals and assists in the Premier League.”
