Manchester City News: “Everyone Supports Liverpool” ~ Pep Guardiola

Manchester City News: Pep Guardiola’s side beat Newcastle United to extend their advantage to three points over Liverpool. But the City manager claimed after the game that everyone was hoping that his side would lose the title.

The Sky Blues played Newcastle United in a must-win game on Sunday. Fresh after being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid, the Sky Blues needed to get back their momentum.

Liverpool had drawn their game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Hence a win would have made the title picture even clearer for Manchester City and their supporters.

Playing at the Etihad Stadium, the Sky Blues didn’t disappoint their fans. A dominant display against Newcastle United saw Manchester City win 5-0. Hence, they now have breathing space over Liverpool with 3 Premier League games left.

Manchester City News: Following the game, Pep Guardiola was interviewed by the media. Here the Sky Blues’ manager claimed that no one wants his side to win the Premier League title.

As per the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola said, “Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media, and everyone. People want Liverpool to win more than us. They have more supporters around the world and in England more support Liverpool than us.”

The Reds have certainly been a dominant force in Europe and England over the years. Liverpool have won six European titles and are looking to win a possible seventh against Real Madrid later in the month.

Nevertheless, Manchester City have been the most successful club in England in the past few seasons. If the Sky Blues win the 2021/22 Premier League title, it would be their fourth league title in five seasons.

Liverpool on the other hand have won just one league title in 30 odd years. Hence Pep Guardiola wanted to portray that the Reds draw the sentimental backing of the crowd in the title race.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool have three Premier League games remaining to decide their fate. But Pep Guardiola’s side would surely have the upper hand in terms of the title race.

Can Liverpool still catch City?

Manchester City News: In theory, Liverpool can still eclipse Pep Guardiola’s side to win the Premier League title. But this would require City to lose at least once in their remaining three league games.

But even if Manchester City lose a game, they would still have a better goal difference than Liverpool. Hence the Reds should get big wins in their next three games to have a chance at winning the Premier League title.
