Manchester City News: Manchester City player John Stones suffered a hamstring injury while playing for England against Germany, last Monday.
27-year-old Stones was given the start in the English backline alongside Eric Dier and Harry Maguire. However, in the 37th minute, he had to be replaced by his City teammate Kyle Walker due to a hamstring injury.
After Stones’ injury, the first half ended 0-0. However soon in the second half, the Germans took the lead at the Wembley Stadium through Ilkay Gundigan’s penalty. Chelsea forward kai Havertz then made it 2-0 in the 67th minute which many thought to be the winner. However, the Three Lions had some different plans.
Within four minutes, English left-back Luke Shaw scored the first goal for England. Then after another four-minute, Mason Mount scored the equaliser for the Three Lions. England completed a brilliant comeback when captain Harry Kane scored from the spot and gave England the lead. However, their lead was shortlived as Kai Havertz scored the final goal of the match which resulted in a 3-3 draw.
Defending English Premier League champions Manchester City have suffered a blow as their defender John Stones got injured while turning for the English national team.
At this moment, there is no clear update on the seriousness of Stones’ injury. This is coming all before one of the most important games for City in the season, the Manchester derby.
Stones have been one of the mainstays in the City lineup this season. Mainly a centre-back, the former Barnsley academy graduate even featured in the right-back position in the absence of Walker, while making 7 appearances.
Stones scored a thunderous equaliser in City’s last Champions League match against Dortmund which helped the Citizens to force a comeback. And now it was expected that he would play another big role in the upcoming Manchester derby.
However, now with this injury, there is uncertainty over his fitness. This indicates City will probably go with a backline of Walker, Dias, Akanji, and Cancelo in the upcoming match.
The defending champions have made a great start to their English Premier League campaign. They have won five out of their first seven matches. Manchester City are currently one of the only two unbeaten teams (Tottenham being the other) in the league.
They are just one point behind league leaders Arsenal and are staying at the second position of the table. With United too being in great form lately, we are hoping to witness a thrilling Manchester derby when City takes the field next time.
