Manchester City News: Manager Pep Guardiola has leapt to the defence of Jack Grealish amid criticism about his goal and assist contribution for the team. Man City signed Grealish from Aston Villa in the summer of 2021, in a deal reported to be worth up to £100m. Grealish’s Man City career, though, has not exactly gone to plan.
Grealish made 38 appearances for Man City in the 21/22 season and only scored six goals and provided four assists for the team. 26 of those appearances came in Premier League, where he just scored three goals and recorded three assists.
Grealish has not had a great start to the 22/23 season either. He has so far featured in five games for Man City across all competitions and has not yet registered a goal or assist for the Premier League side.

Manchester City News: Guardiola Defends Jack Grealish Amid Criticism
Guardiola has defended Grealish amid criticism about his poor statistics for Man City. The Man City manager insisted that it is not just about the goals or assists but also about his contribution in the game – on and off the ball.
“I want him to make goals and I want him to make assists and he does too. But it’s not about that, it’s about his contribution without the ball and what he can produce for the other ones and the many, many things that he’s able to do,” Guardiola said.
Grealish will be hoping to recover his form and become a regular starter at Man City under Guardiola. Although Man City began their 22/23 campaign by falling 3-1 to Liverpool in the FA Community Shield final, they have had a relatively great run. While Arsenal have 15 points from their first six fixtures, Man City have 14 points. They are just one point short of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Man City also kicked off their Champions League 22/23 campaign with a 4-0 win over Sevilla in the group stage. The English side then secured another three points when they faced Borussia Dortmund in their next match in the European competition.
Erling Haaland, who joined Man City from Dortmund, capped off a comeback as they fought back from one goal down to register a 2-1 win.
