Manchester City News: The Sky Blues completed the signing of River Plate striker Julian Alvarez in January. But the striker has been loaned to the Argentinian club for the time being.
Following the departure of Sergio Aguero, City were linked with Tottenham Hotspur’s striker Harry Kane last summer. But the Spurs refused to sell him. Owing to this, Manchester City did not have enough options in their number nine role.
Pep Guardiola’s side only have Gabriel Jesus as a recognised number nine at the moment. But even the Brazilian striker has not been very productive. As a result, he has started just 15 Premier League games.
Owing to this, The Manchester City boss has altered his tactics. Guardiola now plays a false number nine instead of a traditional center-forward. Hence Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, or any other player slots into this position.
Manchester City News: Should Julian Alvarez join the club in the summer?
As per Manchester Evening News, Sergio Aguero wants City to bring Julian Alvarez in the summer itself. The former Argentine striker wants this as he feels Alvarez is mature enough to play for the English club.
The 22-year-old striker has played more than 100 games for River Plate since making his debut in 2018. In this, Julian Alvarez has scored 41 goals and provided 25 assists for the Argentinian club.
Manchester City have already paid around €20 million to sign River Plate forward in January. But rumours suggest that they could let the striker stay at the Argentinian club until January 2023.
Sergio Aguero is reportedly not happy about hearing this. Hence the former Manchester City striker made his feelings clear in a recent interview with ESPN. As per the report, Aguero wants the club to bring Alvarez to Manchester in the summer itself.
The former Manchester City star said, “Julian Alvarez is mature and over time he will continue to learn things, he’s learning more and more. He’s a good kid, he’s a phenomenon, shy and quiet. It’ll be better if he goes to Manchester City in June.”
Julian Alvarez has featured in recent World Cup qualifier games for Argentina as well. Hence the striker and the club would have to make a decision based on how much playing time he will get at City. As this could impact his FIFA World Cup 2018 dream.
City are looking to spend big in the summer!
Manchester City are being linked with Erling Haaland at the moment. If the Norwegian joins the English champions, it could severely impact Julian Alvarez’s playing time at the club.
Similarly, Harry Kane is also being monitored as per reports. If Manchester City miss out on Haaland, they are expected to go all out for Kane. Hence it has to be seen if Pep Guardiola decides to bring Alvarez into the club or if he decides to give him more time at River Plate.
