Manchester City star Raheem Sterling is next in line for a brand new contract extension, after a sensational start to the season.
The Citizen’s start to the 2017/18 season has been beyond remarkable, with them winning 10 out of their eleven games played, scoring 38 goals in the process. But with their team, including the likes of Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and even Raheem Sterling in exceptional form, the club was always going to do well.
However, that’s exactly why Manchester City have decided to reward players with a new contract, which keeps them at the club and also fights away any interest from other clubs. With both De Bruyne and David Silva being handed new deals, Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano and Sporting Director Tixiki Begiristain will turn their attention next toward Raheem Sterling.
According to the Mirror, the City officials will offer the 23-year-old a new deal after the New Year, and the former Liverpool starlet has already reached the half-way mark of his current five year deal with the Etihad Stadium side, after his move in 2015. But given that he was nearly on his way out during the summer, this has been an amazing turnaround for the English winger.
With Manchester City chasing down Arsenal for Alexis Sanchez, Arsene Wenger wanted Raheem Sterling in a swap deal for the Chilean. However, manager Pep Guardiola refused, saying “Raz [Raheem] is staying here. The club trusts him that is why we have invested a lot of money in him, so the players we have are going to stay.

“If they want to leave they are going to leave, but he wants to stay. If players want to leave they have to ask the chairman, but there is no chance of that. He is going nowhere.’
This turned out to be the right move, with the 23-year-old hitting a fine vein of form, scoring 8 goals in twelve games and combining brilliantly with Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero, and even Gabriel Jesus. This resurgence has not only cemented his place in the starting 11 but also renewed his faith among both Guardiola and the Manchester City fans.
Raheem Sterling’s resurgence in form and his sheer ability to be able to adapt to Guardiola formation, combining with the rest of the team has rewarded him well. It also looks like that he is back in his manager’s good books, starting six of the last seven games in all competitions. However, offering a brand new deal would essentially guarantee the club Sterling’s prime years, which would be mutually beneficial for both parties.
