Summer target of Manchester City, Rafael Leao has reportedly rejected a contract renewal offer from the Defending Serie-A champions AC Milan.
After spending some time in the academy of Amora and Foot 21, Rafael Leao joined the youth setup of Sporting CP at a very early age.
The winger then graduated from the Sporting academy and was promoted to the main team. After his promotion, he spent one season and then joined the French team Lille on a five-year deal. Within a few days, he established himself as a starter in the Lille team. He however stayed only one season in France before joining Serie-A giants AC Milan for a reported fee of €35 million.
In his third season at AC Milan, Leao helped the Rossoneri to win Serie-A. The winger was then awarded the Most Valuable Player for the season award. So far he has already netted 61 goals in 129 appearances for the Rossoneri.
Manchester City Target Declines Renewal Offer
Now English Premier League giants Manchester City are keeping a keen interest in Portuguese international Rafael Leao.
Since the departure of Sterling, City are yet to sign a proper winger to replace the English international. They are keeping tabs on many wingers to replace him and Leao is one of the candidates.
The winger has a contract with AC Milan till the end of 2024. But now according to the Calciomercato, he has rejected a renewal offer from AC Milan and is looking for a way out of the club.
Earlier Milan wanted to keep him at the club for more years. They even rejected many offers in the last summer transfer window. But with Leao not interested in signing a renewal deal, it has been understood that the Rossoneri will be ready to sell the midfielder within the next couple of windows.
They currently value him at €60 million which is not going to be an issue for Manchester City. They are totally capable of spending this much for the services of Leao.
Pep Guardiola’s team roped in Erling Haaland at the start of the season. The forward has already scored twenty goals in all competitions. Now if they can add Leao to their setup, they will surely have the fiercest forward line in the world.
Leao is also very much liked by Chelsea management. They even tried to sign him the last summer. But AC Milan were in no mood to listen to their offers. Now the Blues will have another chance to land the winger in the next transfer window.
Apart from the EPL clubs, French giants, Paris Sanit-Germain are also interested in the winger. The Parisiens might lose Kylian Mbappe in the next window and are already looking at big names to replace him. So if Manchester City wants to sign, they will have to move fast.
