Manchester Derby – Manchester United Players Ratings Of Their Loss To City

The most awaited match of the season surely lived up to its hype as we witnessed one of the games of the season.
Manchester city’s Pep Guardiola once again came on top one one one against his old foe Jose Mourinho and has stretched his lead to 9-2. Guardiola surely outwitted Mourinho but the Portuguese has himself to blame for starting Lingard and Mkhitaryan, who hardly had minutes to play in last 3 matches of Premier League ahead of Rashford, Martial or Mata.

Manchester City completely dominated the first half until the Zlatan’s goal for United after which United looked to press City higher up the pitch and sent in quite some waves of attacks. United’s defense looked miserably shambolic for both the goals they conceded as De Bruyne was too much to deal for United’s defense.

In the second half United made the changes to make way for Rashford and Herrera who made United look far more threatening and United had quite some chances to equalise but then Pep sent in Fernando in the middle of the park to break up the United’s play and keep them away from scoring in which they ultimately succeeded and now have a 3 point lead over United.

We look at the ratings for Manchester United players :

David De Gea – 7/10

Hardly could do anything for the goals but saved United on a few occasions from lagging too far behind.

Antonio Valencia – 6/10

Had a very quiet first half and was vulnerable defensively but had a lot of hand in the United attacks as he bombarded down the right flank.

Just made one major mistake and that led to the goal for De Bruyne. Looked composed on the ball and intercepted the ball well at times.

Luke Shaw – 6.5/10

Was one of the better players for United on the pitch, very astute defensively just didn’t get forward too much as he normally does.

Marouane Fellaini – 7/10

Very solid display from the Belgian, won the aerial duels mostly also was clearing everything from set pieces just couldn’t do much in attacks.

Paul Pogba – 6/10

Didn’t deliver as was expected from him, was shut down really well by City. Always had at least 2 players around him when he received the ball.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 4/10

Was atrocious in the whole first half, even he won’t want to look back at his performance. Bought in by Mourinho for the game as a masterstroke, failed miserably.

Jesse Lingard – 4.5/10

Had a great game against City last time he played and that might’ve somewhere been in Mourinho’s when he replaced Martial for Lingard but he looked very much out of sorts. Very bad first touches at times.

Wayne Rooney – 6.5/10

Played one his better games in recent times but was left frustrated. Played a great ball to Zlatan Ibrahimovic just before the halftime when Manchester United could’ve equalized.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 7/10

Hardly had much service in first half, had to drop deeper to get the ball but scored for United to give them some hope to get back into the game, also missed a great opportunity just before the halftime whistle blew. Imposed himself physically really well.

Substitutes –

Marcus Rashford – 7/10

Brought in at halftime and had an instant impact as he almost set up Zlatan for his second. Made some great runs.

Ander Herrera – 7/10

Won his tackles, won the balls back, played the ball forward quick. Changed the game coming on at halftime.

Anthony Martial – N/A

Came on at 81st minute, hardly had any impact on the game.
