Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United are braced for a massive summer and they are willing to let go of one of their midfielders to bring in another.
If the English media are to be believed, Manchester United are apparently interested in West Ham midfield sensation. The Red Devils are set to lose Herrera to PSG. So, the club have decided to make a move for Declan Rice. In the process, they are also willing to cash in on Nemanja Matic to fund a move for the youngster.
Hammer blow for Matic?
Declan Rice has enjoyed an impressive season for the Hammers under Pelligrini’s stewardship. The youngster’s performances have seen him earn his first cap for the English National team during the recent Euro qualifiers. West Ham’s No.41 was awarded a new 5-year contract for his efforts. But speculation over a move away from the club has been rife for a number of months.
Manchester United are one of the clubs being linked to the youngster. The Irish Independent claim that the Red Devils are “willing to break the bank” for him. And they are willing to part with Matic to bring him in. West Ham have absolutely no desire to sell Rice. However, Pelligrini did admit that his side may be forced to sell him if a “big team pay an important amount of money”.
Rice on his future
Declan Rice is aware of the speculation but claims his full focus remains locked on events in the East End. He told BT Sport, “I’m happy. I’m playing week in, week out. I have a special connection with the fans. It’s unbelievable [the London Stadium]. I love every minute of being at West Ham. Being compared to players, being linked to other teams, I don’t really take any of it in, to be honest.”
“If you think about it too much you get caught up in it. I’m only 20, you’ve got your whole career ahead of you. I’m just focused on playing for West Ham and playing with a smile on my face and enjoying it.”
Declan Rice is a definitely a talented youngster but the Manchester United rumours are a bit baseless. This is the 20-year-old’s first full season at the highest level and there is certainly potential. However, the Red Devils or any other top side would want to wait for another season. Rice can be a star in the future but for now, West Ham would be the ideal environment for his development.
