The spectacle that was expected in the Northwest Derby between the two greatest clubs of England didn’t live up to it’s hype, it was more of a compact and restricted performance from the visitors who didn’t leave any space for Liverpool to do their magic at Anfield which was even louder than usual with the new stand.

Jose Mourinho set up his team to nullify everything that Klopp sets up his teams for. Even though Manchester United could only take away a point but it was nonetheless a tactical masterclass from the Portuguese. Pragmatism won against the Klopp’s fiery tactics.

In the whole 90minutes, Liverpool could just only put 2 shots on target which were saved outrageously by United’s Spanish saviour, David De Gea. There was a lot to prove for Mourinho than there was for Klopp and even without a win he should feel like a winner given the circumstances.

We look at the ratings for Manchester United players.

David De Gea – 8/10

Outstanding. Breathless goalkeeping from the Spaniard. He saved United once again, firstly he kept out Firmino from scoring with a low grounded but highly reactive save. Then an outstanding save to keep Coutinho from scoring from the range, which Coutinho couldn’t himself believe that how did it not go in.

Antonio Valencia – 7/10

Great defensive display from the big Ecuadorian. That tackle on Firmino late in the second half was just world class. He shut down Mane and whoever came through his flank.

Eric Bailly – 7/10

He once again put in a great shift. He was outstanding and held his ground well when Liverpool came knocking. Used his pace really well to intercept and keep Liverpool away from setting up a chance.

Chris Smalling – 7/10

He has been great so far this season for Manchester United since he came back from injury. He was really solid and didn’t commit any single mistake. Building up a great partnership with Bailly.

Daley Blind – 6/10

Wasn’t so effective going forward and at times lost his footing but all in all had a fair enough game.

Marouane Fellaini – 7/10

The big man again showed his worth to his critics and put in a great performance as the holding midfielder. Won everything in the air and didn’t leave any spaces behind.

Ander Herrera – 8.5/10

Best player on the pitch for United. He was everywhere and involved in everything. Making tackles, interceptions, winning balls in air, winning possession and firing up the players. He has made a place for himself now in Mourinho’s team.

Paul Pogba – 5/10

Very quiet game again from United’s big money signing, he looked frustrated and had no space to do his thing. Apart from that cross to Zlatan which he squandered he did not effective.

Ashley Young – 6/10

First start of the season for him and did what was asked for him but nothing so great about his performance. Couldn’t put in crosses for Zlatan or Pogba to latch on their heads to something.

Marcus Rashford – 6/10

The teenager was shut down everytime he received the ball. Tried to do his tricks but failed to do anything productive.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 5/10

Missed the best chance of the game and committed too many fouls. He needs to buck up now.

Substitutes :

Wayne Rooney – 5/10

Had a little effect on the game, couldn’t do anything to mark his return.

Luke Shaw – 4/10

Came on too late, substituted to see off the game.
