Manchester United’s golden boy Anthony Martial has been left out of the France squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers, despite the fact that the 21-year-old is in great form.

Anthony Martial has been omitted from the France national team for next month’s World Cup qualifiers, with coach Didier Deschamps opting for both Dimitri Payet and Moussa Sissoko. The Manchester United forward has been in great form for Jose Mourinho but Deschamps had his reasons.

The 21-year-old has been in exceptional form and according to many pundits, taken his game to another level. With five goals and five assists in just eight appearances this season, the Frenchman was named the man of the match in recent games against CSKA Moscow and Burton Albion. However, Deschamps merely insists that it was nothing more than a choice to overlook Martial.

In an interview, the France national team coach said “He’s a player who’s probably better when he starts than when he comes on, A bit like Alexandre Lacazette. All 24 players want to start. Anthony is much better, he’s decisive. The last game at CSKA highlights what he can do. He’s getting back to a good level. He’s more used by [Jose] Mourinho.

“Anthony is a lot better because he’s making a difference in games. Of course, his last match put him in a very good light: he set up three and scored himself with a penalty. He’s getting back to a good level, he’s being used more by Mourinho.

“He could have been in the squad. It’s a choice. He was there during the Euros, he went through a tough time, which he got over. I can only tell him to continue to make me think about him.”

With €105 million Barcelona boy Ousmane Dembele sidelined with a hamstring injury, Anthony Martial was who many thought, the man to replace the former Borussia Dortmund winger. But instead, Dimitri Payet along with Kingsley Coman and Moussa Sissoko have been called up instead.

The French sit atop Group A and have a one-point lead over second place Sweden and four points over the Netherlands who sit in third, but they need to keep on winning. If they win against Bulgaria on the 7th of October, Deschamps’ men will clinch the group, only if Sweden loses against Luxembourg.

However, despite not picking Anthony Martial, the French don’t lack quality in their side. With the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe, and Alexandre Lacazette among many others in the side, they should easily top their group.

Picking Dimitri Payet and Moussa Sissoko over Anthony Martial isn’t exactly the best decision by French coach Didier Deschamps. While Payet has found his footing in a No.10 role, the former West Ham attacker hasn’t been prolific, with only two assists and 0 goals for Marseille, while Sissoko has just started to play first-team football for Tottenham. However, neither player could ever really match up to the form that Anthony Martial is in at the moment.
