Manchester United to battle Chelsea in the race for Bundesliga star

Manchester United to battle Chelsea for Bundesliga star after the two-time winner has been told he’s surplus to requirement.

With Bayern Munich announcing that they have come to an agreement with Schalke star Leon Goretzka to join in the summer, it looks like Vidal’s time in Germany is coming to an end, especially since he’s been used sparingly this season. The Chilean has struggled for appearances and form this season, and with new manager Jupp Heynckes preferring Javi Martinez, Arturo Vidal has had to opt to warm the benches instead.

However, now with Goretzka’s arrival at the club, it looks like Vidal’s may be pushed further down the pecking order. But with the likes of Chelsea and even PSG chasing the Chilean down, he does have a future in the Premier League. Especially now that according to reports from the Express, Manchester United have joined the race for the 30-year-old.

With Jose Mourinho losing Marouane Fellaini at the end of the season after the Belgian refused to sign a new contract and Michael Carrick retiring, Arturo Vidal has been shortlisted as the perfect replacement. The 30-year-old has flourished at Bayern Munich ever since his arrival from Juventus, but with Pep Guardiola leaving the club, so has Arturo Vidal’s form and confidence.

The Chilean has struggled over the last two seasons, and while Bayern Munich did end up with the Bundesliga title, much of it was down to Vidal’s performances. He is a massive presence in midfield and both his energy and combativeness, allows him to be forever involved in the action. Arturo Vidal’s performances are one of the reasons that both Bayern Munich and even Juventus before that dominated their respective leagues.

However, despite the rumors linking him away from the Bavarian giants, Arturo Vidal went on to say, “I’m still here until June and I’m happy. I hope to win the Champions League and then we’ll see what happens. At this moment I am 100 percent at Bayern and there is no chance of changing teams [in the January transfer window]”

Author’s take:

Arturo Vidal is easily one of the world’s best midfielders, and among the best defensive midfielders in the top five European leagues. However, with Manchester United having the likes of Nemanja Matic and even Ander Herrera, there would be no space for the Chilean, but at Chelsea Vidal would find a potential home.

The Blues need another experienced player while Tiemoue Bakayoko finds his feet in England and former Juventus manager Antonio Conte wants Arturo Vidal.
