According to the latest reports, former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has lashed into French midfielder Paul Pogba labeling him as the problem child after the 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Monday night.
The 26-year-old returned to the starting eleven in the Premier League for Manchester United for the first time since a month but was unable to really make an impact on the game against the Gunners.
Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay scored an absolute screamer right at the stroke of half time to put the hosts in front after a rather cagey game which wasn’t really worth the spectacle. However, the visitors earned a precious and deserved point when Gabon forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang equalized 10 minutes after the break.

The 30-year-old’s strike was initially disallowed for offside, only for the VAR review to prove that the Arsenal forward was clearly played onside by Harry Maguire and the goal was allowed to stand.
But United threw away their lead and former Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has explained that he feels bad about the result and singled out midfielder Paul Pogba after the game.
While speaking to Stadium Astro, the 55-year-old Dane said that the performance was extremely weird and he found it difficult to understand the game style and the plan as well which was in contrast to Arsenal, “It was a really weird performance. Sitting in the stands looking at the team and the shape it was difficult to understand what was going on, what the plan for the game was, It was very clear what Arsenal was doing. In every game before today they played the ball out from the back, [today] they didn’t. Every goal kick was kicked up, putting pressure up to the Manchester United half.
But when Manchester United had the ball it was difficult to see what the plan was. And one thing that Ole Gunnar mentioned, when United had the ball he said it was very slow, I can only agree with that. The way the ball is being moved around when Pogba is in the team is different to the pace the ball is being moved around when he’s not in the team. That is something I think they need to work on.
Schmeichel then took a dig at Pogba claiming that the midfield ace needs to speed up the play and labeled the Frenchman as a problem child at the club, “If Pogba is playing in this team he needs to speed it up a bit. He was seriously slowing it down, in the first 25 minutes just basically playing the ball backward. For a player of his caliber that was disappointing. I don’t understand what his role in this team is. Even when Ole made the substitutions and put Pogba further forward, not a lot happened. There were two very good passes in the game from Pogba but it’s two, it’s not 15. And I see that as a problem. He takes up so much attention. It kind of feels like he’s a problem child in this team.”
Pogba hasn’t really been able to showcase his talents this season because he does not want to be at Manchester United. It seems like he is waiting for the day that either Barcelona or Real Madrid come and pick him away from Old Trafford. Unfortunately for United, he is still the best player at the club and they may need to find a suitable player if he leaves.
