The Old Trafford club is keeping close tabs on the Aston Villa midfielder after his terrific start to the season.
The Scottish midfielder is being scouted by Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window. According to Noel Whelan, Reds are looking to sign John McGinn from Aston Villa in January.
The Scotland International is carrying the momentum from Villa’s promotion to Premier League and already found the net twice in his six appearances for the club from the central midfield position. McGinn also has an assist to his name in his Premier League debut already in his first 6 games for Villa.
The 24-year-old midfielder has been a standout player for Villa till now in Premier League. Former Leeds United Striker Whelan told Football Insider that, “When you watch Villa, McGinn is the best player every game. He is involved in everything and is a fantastic player.
He’s Villa’s one shining light. That just why Man United are looking at him for January. That’s what I’ve been told. They are scouting him,” said Whelan.
Whelan also added that “I think Man United could do with someone like McGinn. He would be far better for them than someone like Juan Mata.” McGinn was Villa’s one of the key player in their promotion to Premier League. The Scottish midfielder has scored 7 goals in his 43 starts for Aston Villa in Championship 2018-19 season including 9 assists.

John McGinn was signed by Villa for around £3million in the summer of 2018 from Hibernian. Now, Manchester United are ready to spend £50m for the Villa midfielder, who is enjoying a good start in the Premier League so far under Dean Smith. However, Villa is having a slow start in the Premier League.
McGinn was named fans’ and players’ player of the year as well after their success in Championship. The 24-year-old put pen to paper on a new five-year deal in August with Villa looking to secure his long-term future at the club.
