Manchester United News: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a man under pressure right now. The Norwegian is facing heat in wake of a series of poor results this season. It started with a 2-1 defeat to Young Boys. It was followed by defeats to West Ham and Aston Villa.
Even in the victories against Villarreal and West Ham they needed late goals. A draw at Old Trafford against Everton did not help. However, the 4-2 defeat to Leicester City has added more salt to the wounds. With results not improving speculation has started to stir about Solskjaer’s immediate future at the club.
Even last season after the 1-6 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur there were questions about the Norwegian’s future. However, he managed to glide past that. It remains to be seen whether the same will happen or not this time.
Manchester United news: Red Devils’ lavish transfer spending
Another reason why Solskjaer is under pressure is because of the spending done by the Red Devils this season. This season Manchester United spent around $150 million this summer. The likes of Ronaldo and Varane arrived at the club.
Along with these two world-class players, long term target Jadon Sancho also joined the club. Thus this season, Manchester United were expected to perform better considering they finished second last season.
However, as the season is progressing it looks unlikely that they will be able to challenge for the title. With the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool showing consistency. Thus the transfer spending has added more pressure on Solskjaer to succeed.
Manchester United News: Ronaldo’s recommendation
According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda, Cristiano Ronaldo has recommended Zinedine Zidane as a successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Frenchman was in charge of Real Madrid during Ronaldo’s most successful period as a player.
Together they won the La Liga title and the Champions League three times in a row. Inda told
El Chiringuito TV that “The person who would sponsor him (Zinedine Zidane) and who has recommended him to the board is Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Solskjaer’s future at Manchester United in doubt?
According to the Express, the Red Devils are hesitant to sack Solskjaer. Presently, his job is secured at Old Trafford. However, if things don’t improve he could be heading for a sack from his job.
Though Zinedine Zidane had rejected the chance to manage Manchester United earlier. This was because he was holding out for the job of the French national team. However, it looks extremely unlikely that Didier Deschamps will leave the French national team with the Qatar 2022 World Cup less than a year away.
Not only this Deschamps recently won the Nations League as well. Thus Zidane could wait for the job of the French national team. While he waits he can potentially keep his management skills polished at Manchester United.
The Red Devils fans have huge respect for Ole Gunnar Solksjear, given how well he has performed at the club. However, it is likely that they feel that he is out of his depth. The constant example of Frank Lampard being replaced by a tactician like Tuchel is being cited. Thus Manchester United fans would now want to see Solksjear and be replaced by an established successful manager like Zinedine Zidane.
