Manchester United News: Spain Manager Luis Enrique had a tongue-in-cheek moment. He was asked if he would be willing to take the United job and he gave a very witty reply.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign as Manchester United boss ended on Sunday. The 4-1 loss to Watford away at Vicarage Road was the final nail in the Norwegian’s coffin.
The Red Devils are in a horrible run of form in the Premier League. They have won just one out of their last seven Premier League fixtures. They face Chelsea and Arsenal next in the Premier League.
Manchester United are currently at the 8th spot in the Premier League. They will be in desperate need of points to at least salvage their season by finishing in the top four. Their next match is against Villareal on Tuesday in the Champions League.
What did Luis Enrique say?
Now that the managerial position at United is vacant, a lot of managers are being discussed by the fans and pundits as potential suitors. Spain National team manager Luis Enrique was also questioned about the same.
When asked by La Sexta if he was going to take up the Manchester United job, Enrique replied “Is it April Fools’ Day today?.” It was a tongue-in-cheek moment and Enrique along with the reporters laughed about the comment.
The former FC Barcelona boss then added that he is currently very happy with the Spain National team. When asked if he would like to go to a big club like United, Enrique said, “I’m already in the biggest team in Spain with 5,000 players.”
Luis Enrique has been the manager of the Spanish National team since November 2019. He led the team to a semi-final finish in the UEFA Euro 2020 and the finals of the UEFA Nations League this year.
At the moment, it is very clear that Luis Enrique is focused on the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Spain have already qualified for the flagship event. He will be looking to win his nation the second World Cup title.
Who else is being touted for the United job?
Luis Enrique is not the only manager who is being pointed out as the next potential United manager.
Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino, and Erik Ten Hag are being reported as the favorites. Michael Carrick will take over the position as head coach for now as the United board searches for a potential suitor.
It has to be seen in the coming days as to who will take the reins as the next Manchester United manager. Whoever comes in would already have a big task in hand, to lead the Red Devils into next year’s UEFA Champions League for starters.
