Manchester United news: Cristiano Ronaldo is totally committed to the Red Devils, according to Erik ten Hag.
Ronaldo was heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United in the summer transfer window. Reports had said that the Portuguese had asked Man Utd to allow him to leave should they receive a suitable offer.
Ronaldo reportedly wanted to play in the Champions League, which Man Utd have failed to qualify for after their sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
However, interest in Ronaldo was few and far between, and the 37-year-old could not seal a move away from the Old Trafford-outfit in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United News: Cristiano Ronaldo Committed to the Club, Says Erik ten Hag
Ronaldo has featured in all of Man Utd’s games so far this season but has only made it to the starting XI thrice.
He has so far made eight appearances for Man Utd in the 22/23 season. Six of those were in the Premier League, where he made just one start. The rest two were in the Europa League and he made it to the starting XI in those games.
Ronaldo’s latest start came in Man Utd’s 2-0 win over FC Sheriff. The Portuguese converted a penalty to score Man Utd’s second goal of the game. That was also Ronaldo’s first goal of the season.
Speaking after the match, Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag insisted that Ronaldo is committed to the team.
The Dutch manager also believes Ronaldo will score more goals once he attains the right fitness. Ronaldo had missed Man Utd’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to family reasons.
“We could expect this when you miss pre-season so he has to work really hard and invest to get the right fitness then he will score more goals,” Ten Hag said.
“You can see he is really close. When he gets fitter he will finish them. I think [he is] totally committed to this project and totally committed to this team, totally involved. You see also connections coming around him and he is constructing connections so I am happy with that.”
Ronaldo will be hoping to turn the tide and become a regular starter at Man Utd this season.
Meanwhile, Man Utd, who sit fifth in the Premier League points table, face Manchester City in their next game in the English top-flight.
