Manchester United News: The Red Devils have revealed that current Ajax manager Erik ten Hag will take over as their new manager at the start of next season.

Ajax manager ten Hag, 52, met with United executives last month to discuss becoming their new manager. He has now taken the job on a permanent basis, signing a contract that runs until June 2025 with a one-year extension option.

“It is a great pleasure to be appointed manager of Manchester United, and I am delighted to be here,” the Dutchman stated. I am well-versed in the history of this great club as well as the passion of its supporters. I am motivated to build a team capable of delivering the results they deserve.

“Leaving Ajax after these incredible years will be difficult. However, I can assure our fans that I will give everything to leave the club with another trophy.”

Ten Hag’s led the Dutch giants to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019. The Dutch giants were within seconds of reaching the final before Lucas Moura’s winner for Tottenham in the sixth minute of added time.

Ajax upset Real Madrid and Juventus in that famous run. It was their first knockout fixture in the Champions League since 1997.

Ten Hag took over as Ajax manager in December 2017. He is on track to win the club’s third league trophy in his four years in charge, after ending the club’s five-year drought for an Eredivisie title in 2019.

The coach has also won two KNVB Cups with the club. He took them to the Champions League Round of 16 this season. They were eliminated by Benfica despite winning all six of their group stage games.

It all started in 2012.

Ten Hag began his coaching career in 2012. He led the Go Ahead Eagles to their first playoff appearance in 17 years. He then moved on to coach Bayern Munich II for two seasons, before taking over as head coach of FC Utrecht in 2015.

Ten Hag took over a team that had placed 11th in the Eredivisie and led them to fifth and fourth place results. He was hired by Ajax in the middle of the 2017-18 season.

Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, was also a candidate for the job. As reported in February, Pochettino was the early favourite for the United post. Pochettino had also met with United executives but the Dutchman was chosen.

Ten Hag will have a tough task ahead of him at Old Trafford. The Dutchman will inherit a team that has been disastrous for the whole 2021/22 season. Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, and Jesse Lingard, are one of the few names who will be leaving this summerr.

If appropriate offers arrive, a number of other players will be permitted to depart. United hierarchy has assured ten Hag that he will have a say in the club’s recruitment process this summer.
