Recent reports have claimed that Manchester United have expressed their anger and disappointment towards the media following rumors that Pogba wants a massive hike in his pay to remain at Old Trafford.
There Manchester United management has publicly defended the French midfielder, insisting that the 26-year-old has not made any fresh wage demands on the club as it was reported a few weeks ago. Previous rumors and reports stated that Pogba has asked for a staggering £600,000-a-week as basic payment only to remain at Old Trafford amid interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
It is no secret that Pogba is keen on joining the Santiago Bernabeu to play for Real Madrid after he expressed his desire for a new challenge in the summer transfer window. But a deal for the Frenchman did not go through and Pogba stayed back in England.
Many people, fans and pundits have made a lot out of this story and have scapegoated Pogba as the main reason for the poor start to the season. Earlier last week, West Ham United’s vice-chairman wrote in his newspaper column that United should consider selling Pogba if he is demanding that sort of wages because he is not worth it.
But the Red Devils have had enough and issued a statement of their own replying to the rubbish rumors, “Paul [Pogba] still has two years left on his current deal with an option of an extra year so there have been no talks about a new contract and nothing from Paul saying he wants an increase in wages. He’s fully focused on getting 100 percent fit again and helping the team. Anyone that says he’s been asking for £600,000-a-week is wrong and it’s a surprise to us when someone in the game like Karren Brady refers to it.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also indicated that Pogba is a key member of his team and plans for the future as well because the World Cup winner is arguably the best player at the club. At the moment, Pogba is out of action as he is nursing a recurring ankle injury which has allowed him to feature only twice for Manchester United since August.
Pogba is undoubtedly a great player but United fans and the media need to stop criticizing him because he does the best he can on the pitch. He is still a young player who seems like he gives everything for the club but still people somehow find a way to criticize him and make a big deal of his antics.
