Ever since Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku they are in need of a striker. The Red Devils have their eyes on Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez to fill the void. According to the reports, Manchester United will be competing with Barcelona to acquire Martinez’s service.
Man United are desperate to bring a striker to the squad who will act as a back-up to Marcus Rashford. The Red Devils have also been linked with Mario Mandzukic who has become an outcast at Juventus. According to Express Sport report, the English club has already agreed on a verbal deal with the 33-year Croatian. Mandzukic has not made a single appearance for the Old Lady of Turin so far this season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be eager to strengthen his squad more after signing a summer signing of £150million. The players who joined the squad were Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James.
However, with the departure of Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, the summer window was more unsuccessful as there was no replacement for the players. Interestingly, if all goes well at Old Trafford, Martinez could be Lukaku’s replacement for Man United.
Lautaro Martinez form and link with Barcelona:
Martinez has been in top form in the recent games, scoring four goals in last four matches and two assists earlier in the campaign. According to Clarin Sports report, United are considering to make a bid for the 22-year-old. Martinez has seven goals in 13 games in all competitions so far for Inter Milan.
Manchester United are going to face a tough competition from Barcelona who are seeking a replacement for ageing Luis Suarez. The Catalonians are eyeing Martinez as the replacement to the Uruguayan striker who is towards the end of his prime days.
Suarez has scored six goals in eight matches this season. However, the 32-year-old striker has become an unpopular choice amongst a faction of fans who do not find him to be the same striker as he used to be.
Martinez can be a good ‘false 9’ and can fit perfectly into Solskjaer’s gameplay who like more counter-attacking style football. It would be interesting to see if Man United can strike a deal with the young striker in January. Martinez current release clause stands at £82.9m [€96m].
