Juan Mata praises Mesut Ozil at Arsenal despite his lack of play time under Unai Emery.

United Spanish player Juan Mata praises Mesut Ozil at Arsenal and insisted that he had great quality despite his struggles under Unai Emery.

The 31-year old Spanish midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at The Emirates due to his form and fitness issues, and with the ongoing problems, he has only made one single appearance in the Premier League so far.

Mesut Ozil signed a new £350,000-a-week deal and it was before Emery took over at the Emirates and his wages are weighing heavy on the Arsenal’s budget now.

The former Real Madrid star has been working hard on his fitness levels behind the scenes at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground making struggles in a bid to prove himself ready for a starting spot in Emery’s team.

And though, Juan Mata is unaware of the situation of Ozil at Arsenal but he insists that despite Arsenal’s No. 10 fading age, He still remains one of the best-attacking midfielders in the world.

Juan Mata opens up about Ozil in an interview,

“To be honest, I don’t know what’s going on. I was with Emery for three years in Valencia and I know him very well but I don’t know the day-to-day thing in Arsenal right now.

But, of course, Ozil is a creator, a player with a lot of great quality that I like watching.

This type of player, this pure No 10, is … how do you say? Extinct? Maybe not extinct, but not as used as before ‘In the past, there was always this pure No 10, behind the striker or the two strikers, depending on the team.

With different systems now, that position has evolved into a different one.

But these are players I like, where natural talent brings the best of them and they can change a game with a pass or something that nobody else sees.”

The Gunners currently are placed third in the Premier League table and are hoping to get the silverware this time.

Author’s take:

The gunners wanted to offload Ozil and potential buyers were difficult to find. While being paid £350000 per week, he has to give something atleast he must get back his midfielding skills that made him one of the best attacking Midfielder
