Paul Pogba has missed yet another training session ahead of crucial Champions League tie
Paul Pogba’s Manchester United career has been ‘mixed’ to say the least. While in some games the midfielder has looked absolute world class, in some others he has looked literally clueless. He had a dream start to the 2017-18 campaign, assisting 5 times in his first 3 games, but then came an injury. And since coming back, he hasn’t looked the same.
The Frenchman was absent from the lineup to face Liverpool on Saturday due to a last minute injury in the training session. And this week, he was found sitting out of training session on Monday. This has fueled doubts over his availability for the Sevilla game. Even if he plays, the 24 year old will be short of game time off late. He played against Chelsea two weeks ago, but was benched by Mourinho in the previous games due to poor form.
The Heart of The Matter
There has been much speculation about the future of Pogba at the Old Trafford. After a run of poor games, his boss Mourinho wasn’t reluctant to bench him despite him being the most expensive Manchester United player ever. This lead to talks of a bust up between the Portuguese and the Frenchman. Pogba has so far been under his standards this season. In the league, he has scored 3 goals and assisted 9 others. While the assists seem high, they have been concentrated in a few matches, while in the rest, he hasn’t had a lot to offer. And now him missing the Sevilla clash would be a big blow for him on the personal front, and for the team, as when at his best, he can be devastating.
Pogba has had a start stop season. He has only made 19 league appearances due to injuries, and bad form. But now when he would’ve hoped to get back in favour by performing well in the big games, he has got injured again. It would be interesting to see whether he is available for the game against Sevilla. And if he is, would the boss opt for him or favour the young Scott Mctominay?
