According to the latest reports, Premier League side Manchester United is looking to negotiate a deal with Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils have gotten off to their worst ever start in the Premier League after seven games as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have struggled to find goals. Following their opening day 4-0 win against Chelsea, United have managed to score only seven goals in nine games across all competitions without scoring twice in a single game.
United needed penalties to see off Rochdale in the Carabao Cup and suffered humiliating defeats against West Ham United as well as Crystal Palace. But dreadful performances and the lack of conviction is something that is bothering United fans at the moment. Although the new recruits in the form of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan Bissaka and Daniel James have added a bit of upgraded quality to the team, there is no spine at the club and United may need a few more signings if they are to get anywhere near the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Solskjaer allowed key forwards Alexis Sanchez as well as Romelu Lukaku to leave the club in the summer transfer window and losing those two big-name strikers has caused a few problems as United are struggling in the attacking third. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have been injury prone as well this season and 17-year-old forward Mason Greenwood has been the only attacking option at times for the club.
The 46-year-old has hinted that he will look to lure in an attacking player in the January transfer window and United have been linked with swooping in Leicester City’s James Maddison as well as Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
But the latest reports from Manchester United Evening News claim that the 20 time League champions are in the hunt to sign Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele. The French winger arrived at the Camp Nou back in the summer of 2017 for a staggering transfer fee of €105 million from Dortmund but hasn’t really justified his price tag. Dembele has had a stop-start career with the La Liga giants due to his injury woes as well as poor form but he is still valued as one of the top superstars in Europe.
United are prepared to launch a bid for the 22-year-old attacker in the winter transfer window to lure him to Old Trafford but the English outfit is also keeping tabs on Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele.
Dembele would be a great purchase for United but the issue is that he is injury prone and has been inconsistent as well. But the winger might be able to rediscover his form at the Theatre Of Dreams if he clicks under Solskjaer.
