Manchester United to target a left-footed defender this summer to partner Maguire

United have been showcasing some class play since the resumption. But the one area that is being criticized is the defense.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has been efficient in collecting points lately. Besides the 1-1 draw against Tottenham, Manchester United has been victorious in all other games. They lie fifth in the table with just 2 points behind Leicester City. Another win can secure the Old Trafford club their top-four finish. But despite all these good factors. Fans are uneasy with the defense lately.

Manchester United lineup Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. The duo has been good looking but has its own flaws. Both the men lack pace and hence leads to vulnerability. Also with David de Gea unable to hold things together, this adds to the misery. Hence, the management is looking into other options to partner up with Harry Maguire.

Maguire has been pretty impressive since his arrival. The £80m transfer became the costliest defender last window. But his combinations have been pretty messy. Phil Jones and Rojo are likely to exit the club soon. The other option left is Victor Lindelof. But the defender is lacking the pace to catch up with his opponent strikers. Hence, they are targeting three options to sign this summer.

Nathan Ake

The Dutchman stars for Premier League side Bournemouth. The 25-year-old is a left-footed player, just what United is searching for. He also has the pace that the club is trying to bring in. United have tried to bring in players like Kalidou Koulibaly in the past. But the price tag on the star is too much for the red devils. Ake on the other hand can come in for a far lower price. Also with Bournemouth risking relegation, United may find an edge in the bargain.

Tyrone Mings

United are already targeting Aston Villa’s captain Jack Grealish. Tyrone Mings is also a favorite for United as a defensive option. Mings has made 28 appearances this season and has shown a great display of class. Like Bournemouth, Aston Villa is risking relegation. Hence, negotiations can be easy for United. Arsenal is also keen to sign the 27-year-old as per The Sun.

If United can meet Aston Villa’s expectations, they can secure a transfer. Arsenal is in dire need of a defensive player. But they may not be able to meet Villa’s bars. United on the other hand can put up a steady negotiation.

Alessio Romagnoli

The former Roma star is now an integral part of AC Milan. The 25-year-old is the captain of the Rossoneri. He has grown a lot since his arrival in Milan. Hence, the interest from Manchester United. But the ace has a wide range of admirers on his tail. Barcelona, Inter Milan are all keeping close tabs on the Italian International.

Unlike Mings and Ake, Romagnoli won’t come in cheap either. But the one factor that United can press is in the UCL assurance. AC Milan has not qualified in the Champions League since 2014. If United are able to sack some more points and secure their top-four roles. The Red Devils can lure in the defender with this factor.

Manchester United are keen on signing a defender this summer. So these men are some of the best options they can opt for. Ole Gunnar being an efficient tactician can fix the issue in time. We may see them bagging a defensive option this summer.
