Manchester United Transfer News: Anthony Martial’s tenure with Manchester United has come to a halt. The winger is making a move to Sevilla till the season end. Sevilla is paying about 6 million Euros and managing Martial’s 150,000 pounds-a-week salary, reports said.
The former Golden Boy winner will be flying to Spain on Tuesday to undergo a medical and complete the transfer. The 26-year-old forward was on the radar for many clubs like Juventus, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle. However, it’s Sevilla who have won the race for his signature.
The former Monaco man believes Sevilla is the best place to be in terms of game time. Sevilla was desperate to reinforce as well because of their title race with Real Madrid in La Liga. However, the Spanish team does not have the option to buy Martial at the end of the loan period.
The French international made the move to Manchester from Monaco in 2015. The number 9 has scored 79 times. He did that in 269 appearances for the club since his move. However, the 26-year-old fell out of favor in the forward position because of other signings as well as his injury issues.
Manchester United Transfer News: What does Tom Williams have to say?
Tom Williams was very vocal about the entire Martial situation on his podcast. He spoke about the reasons that led to the forwards untimely departure from the club.
The podcaster pointed out the fact that Martial’s inability to be consistent is one of the main reasons for his departure. He added that he has played under four managers, but no one can be called his biggest fans.
He further added: “There are always injury concerns with him. Adding to this the best position for him is still not known to many. Is he the best on the left or is he best through the middle?”
Rashford’s emergence hampered Martial?
Williams insisted that the rise of Marcus Rashford’s Old Trafford was unfortunate for Anthony Martial as they are similar types of players. He also mentioned other attacking talents like Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“The best time for Anthony at the club was after COVID-19 lockdown. He was an absolute star at that time. However, things have gone from bad to worse since that campaign ended and now he is out of the picture.
The arrival of magical Cristiano Ronaldo was probably the final nail in his stuttering career at Manchester United. Williams concluded that a move away is the best thing for both parties.
The winger was recently blamed by interim manager Ralf Rangnick for asking not to play in the 2-2 draw at Aston Villa on January 15. However, Martial posted on Instagram and refuted his manager’s claim. The 63-year-old German later insisted the situation was “resolved”.
The loan deal is looking like the best option for both parties now. United will be hoping that Martial recovers his mojo back and makes Sevilla La Liga champions. If that happens, United can easily recoup the best part of the money they spent on him as a teenager.
