Manchester United Transfer News: Manchester United’s transfer business has been atrocious. The Red Devils have a bloated squad and still, they are not letting go of players who want to leave. This stance of the club has made the fans laugh in dismay at the club’s hierarchy.
If the reports are to be believed, the Old Trafford outfit is waiting on a new offer for Jesse Lingard. The 29-year-old is willing to leave the club in January as he wants to play more. The first offer was rejected by United for reasons only known to the club’s board.
Lingard as well as the club have a mutual understanding of the situation. The academy graduate wants to spend the remainder of the campaign on loan at Tyneside. However, the talks failed between the clubs because United wanted a bonus if Newcastle remains in the Premier League at the end of the season.
Everything is in place for the deal to go through. The Magpies are more than happy to pay the player’s wages as well as the loan fees. However, they don’t want to pay a survival bonus if Lingard helps them avoid the drop to the Championship.
Manchester United Transfer News: What’s the situation?
Lingard’s situation at Old Trafford is no mystery to anyone. The England international’s contract expires this summer, and he can leave on free. Despite knowing this, United is playing hardball for more money apart from the loan fees.
United sources insist the ball is now in Newcastle’s court. They believe that Newcastle needs a player of Lingard’s quality to make them fight their relegation fight. This is seen as the main reason for their demands for a bonus from Newcastle.
His last loan spell was with another Premier League club, West Ham United. The Carrington graduate joined the hammers and totally transformed their season in a short spell. So much so that the West Ham fans wanted him to be their first signing last summer.
Solskjaer let Lingard join West Ham after he was seen surplus to the requirement in Manchester. The move turned out to be a masterstroke for David Moyes’ side. The flamboyant winger scored nine goals and provided four assists in 16 Premier League appearances.
This upturn in form convinced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to hold on to Lingard this summer. However, he got sacked even before December arrived and Lingard has not made a Premier League start all season.
But if no deal is reached with Newcastle, then United will keep hold of Lingard until the end of the season, when he will be able to leave on a free transfer.
United’s window so far?
Anthony Martial is already out on a loan to Sevilla and the club will receive a good sum of loan fees. Donny van de Beek looks likely to leave on a loan for Crystal palace as talks are ongoing between the clubs.
The Dutchman has struggled since joining the club from Ajax in 2020. He hasn’t made a single start under both the managers so far and is keen to leave Old Trafford in this window. The former Ajax man wants to play more to be in consideration for his World Cup selection later this year.
Eric Bailly is another player who might make a move before the window closes as his side is out of the Africa Cup of Nations. In terms of incomings, United is linked with many midfielders but is supposedly waiting to appoint a permanent manager first.
