Manchester United Transfer News: Following reports that Fulham and Andreas Pereira have reached an agreement, the Red Devils appear to be receiving a much-needed boost to their summer transfer budget.

The Brazilian powerhouse Flamengo was interested in signing Pereira permanently before a deal fell through earlier in the summer. As Marco Silva aims to give his newly-promoted club Premier League experience, Fulham has stepped up to sign the midfielder.

The Cottagers will pay an initial £8.6 million to secure Pereira, who has one year left on his Old Trafford deal. Add-on payments of up to £2.6 million will follow.

Erik Ten Hag has a smaller transfer budget than he would have had the team qualify for the Champions League last season. The Dutchman’s desired signings aren’t going to be cheap.

Ten Hag will be able to increase his buying spree through player sales. The Dutch strategist intends to sign both the expensive Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona and the talented Antony of Ajax.

Flamengo, however, may still make one final effort to get Pereira’s signature. Vice-president Marcos Braz stated in an interview with ESPN earlier this week that they were still aiming to retain the former Brazil international.

“Flamengo is still looking for another option so that the player can remain here. The situation is extremely challenging and complicated.

“He is a young talent with a sizable market and comes from a team with significant financial resources. Therefore, there are restrictions on how far you may go while discussing specific things, but Flamengo still makes an effort to keep the player.”

Pereira graduated from the illustrious Red Devils academy in 2014. He went on loan to Granada, Valencia, Lazio, and Flamengo. He made his most notable appearances for United under previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer between 2018 and 2020. Pereira, who was born in Belgium, has subsequently made 52 appearances for Flamengo and scored seven goals.

Unfortunately, the majority of what is known about his time in Rio de Janeiro so far is the unfortunate error he made in the Copa Libertadores final. He fumbled the ball in his own half and gave it to Palmeiras striker Deyverson, who scored in the 95th minute to win his team the prestigious South American trophy.

Pereira stated that he intended to remain in his current position even after the game. He told ESPN, “My aim was always to stay here at Flamengo.

“And now we’ll take care of everything. To make this feasible, we’ll speak with President Landim and Marcos Braz. Undoubtedly, I believe that I owe the supporters a title. As I previously assured them, they can rely on me to do my absolute best so that we can release these titles here the following year.”
