Marcelo Reveals Astonishing Fact About Gareth Bale after six years in Madrid

The Welshman’s tenure at Madrid has received mixed reactions.

Gareth Bale’s tenure at Madrid has received mixed reactions from everyone. What was seen as the next big galatico so far hasn’t sparked yet. Bale was bought so he could replace Cristiano Ronaldo. This season was supposed to be his season after the departure of the Portuguese to Juventus. However, injuries prevented him to fill the shoes. Despite making a success of his move from Spurs in 2013, Bale is still yet to fully convince fans that he deserves a spot in team. Marcelo, Bale’s teammate revealed the four Spanish words that that his teammate learnt in six years.

Gareth Bale may well be in his sixth season with Spanish giants Real Madrid but he is yet to fully master the local language, according to team mate Marcelo. The Wales winger arrived in Spain amid much fanfare in 2013 when he signed from Tottenham for a then world record fee of £89million. But, despite helping the European giants win four Champions Leagues and one La Liga title during his time at the Bernabeu, he is yet to fully win over the fans in the capital. And Brazilian left back Marcelo, speaking to Marca about the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus last summer, has revealed that Bale only speaks English in the dressing room, and usually communicates in gestures.

Marcelo said, “I had a very good relationship with Cristiano (Ronaldo), his family and his girlfriend. On the other side, I have Bale, but Bale does not speak [Spanish] as he only speaks English. And we talk with gestures and I say, ‘Hi, hello and good wine.” A few days ago, Spanish publication Sport suggested that he’s failed to embed into the dressing room because of his ‘introverted personality’.

Bale recently scored his 100th goal for Real Madrid in the derby victory over Atletico Madrid at the weekend.

Author’s Take:

That’s certainly a worrying revelation. The fact that Bale doesn’t speak the language clearly isn’t helping him bond with his teammates off the field. Not learning the language can play a big role in team bonding. The Welshman should try to learn the language. Learning the language will help in gel with the team. In this way the team’s understanding and game playing will improve as well.
