Los Blancos kicked off their new season under Zinedine Zidane, who won Champions league in his first season as manager. Real Madrid were away to face Real Sociedad in their first league game of the season. They’ll look to triumph the league this season and end the much awaited of their fans to win the league, which they last won under Jose Mourinho in 2011-12 season.
Zidane started with Morata-Bale-Asensio in a 4-3-3 formation. Kovacic, Casemiro and Kroos took the control in midfield. Carvajal, Ramos, Varane and Marcelo were in defense and Kiko Casilla started ahead of Keylor Navas between the sticks.
Real Madrid started off with a fliar as Gareth Bale heads in a superb cross from Dani Carvajal to give the Los Blancos lead. Bale with his movement and speed terrorized Sociedad defense, in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale looked to be making a statement for his boss to be more of the centre of play. Gareth Bale has 4 goals at Anoeta since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur.
Sociedad looked settled in the game after conceding the first goal and were searching for a quick response to bring the game to level after a terrible start in front of their home fans. They controlled majority of the possession and had a good spell in the Real Madrid half.
Morata on his return back to Real Madrid from Juventus this season in a €30m move looked a little rusty at the start but took his shots at times and had some good link-up play later with Bale and Asensio.
Illarramendi missed a sitter in the 30th minute from a great through given by Zurutuza to bring the game back to level as Sociedad were looking good and it looked like as if an equalizer could really give the game a new kick, but Sociedad were later punished by a stunning goal from Asensio in 40th minute who scored on his debut for Real with a beautiful chip over Rulli.
At half-time, Real Madrid were leading with 2-0 and just after the half-time Casemiro got booked for a rash challenge as Sociedad looked in more attacking intent who created some scoring chances.
Rulli kept Sociedad in game as he made a great save from a thunderous Kovacic shot. Sociedad looked to be trying too hard to mount a comeback and made some attacking changes, but another great finish from Gareth Bale, assisted beautifully by James Rodriguez, who replaced Morata.
Gareth Bale proved to be the difference in attack in both teams who was menacing on the day and bagged a brace to bag the man of the match. A great start to league challenge for Real Madrid without Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and certain other big names.
