According to the Los Angeles Times, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs and is in concussion protocol.
Mathew Stafford exited last week’s game against the New Orleans Saints early due to a sack, prompting the team to check him for a concussion.
He reported feeling numbness in his legs throughout the game, which came a week after he missed one due to a concussion.
According to Rams coach Sean McVay, Mathew Stafford is in concussion protocol but has not been diagnosed with a concussion. He was officially ruled out owing to a neck problem.

“We’re checking all those boxes and going through everything,” McVay explained. “There are a lot of levels to it, but you want to make sure you’re doing everything you can too (address) exactly what went into that emotion, and letting the specialists offer their opinion, look at the MRI and those scans, and be able to give the appropriate information so that we can move forward with him.”
Mathew Stafford missed the Rams’ loss to the Cardinals two weeks ago after entering the protocol for the first time. The Rams have yet to clarify whether Stafford suffered a concussion in that incident.
McVay stated that Mathew Stafford and the Rams have not decided if Stafford will be placed on injured reserve or suspended for the rest of the season. After Sunday, Los Angeles has only six games and a difficult road to playoff contention.
It’s unknown who will start in Mathew Stafford’s stead on Sunday
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team will give backup Bryce Perkins first-team reps this week leading up to the game. Perkins took over for Mathew Stafford against the Saints and the Arizona Cardinals two weeks ago. John Wolford, another backup, was out last week with a neck injury suffered against the Cardinals.
Mathew Stafford has been one of the NFL’s most dependable quarterbacks over the last 12 years. Prior to his absence against the Cardinals, he missed only eight games in that span, all of which occurred during the 2019 season with Detroit due to a back issue.
In the Rams’ fourth consecutive loss, Perkins, 25, was 5-of-10 for 64 yards against the Saints. The Chiefs are coming off a 30-27 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers last week, their fourth consecutive victory.
