The striker has been in a sensational form and has attracted the interest of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
After an 18 game unbeaten start things haven’t got exactly right for Maurizio Sarri. It seems the manager’s philosophy isn’t completely understood by players. Chelsea look the least favourite side to finish in top 4 this season.
The Blues are in race with Arsenal and Manchester United to grab the final position of Champions League but it seems they may not finish in top 4 due to lack of attacking power. Chelsea must be hoping to overturn the transfer ban and sign an attacking player and replacement of Hazard. Maurizio Sarri has a dropped a hint by describing this Bundesliga striker as ‘wonderful’.
Chelsea squeezed their way into the semi-final of the Europa League last night and Maurizio Sarri hinted that he has been keeping his eye on one striker this season.
The Blues will take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the final four of the competition after their win over Benfica, with Frankfurt’s front man Luka Jovic being one of the key men of the campaign. Jovic has netted eight times in the European competition, with the 21-year-old having also begged 17 Bundesliga goals so far for Frankfurt, and has caught the eye of many clubs, including Barcelona.
Chelsea are still waiting to hear the verdict of their appeal from the impending transfer ban and at present will be unable to register new players for two windows.
However, if it does get overturned by the FIFA Appeals Committee, then Sarri certainly likes what he sees from ‘wonderful’ Jovic. “To win it [Europa League] will be very difficult, of course. We need to think to the semi-final, we need to study our opponents. We want to get to the final. We want to win the competition of course, but it will be difficult. Eintracht are a great team with a wonderful striker, Jovic. In the other semi-final [Arsenal vs Valencia] there are two very good teams. I am not happy Napoli are out. If the final was Chelsea vs Napoli I am sure at the end of the match I am really very happy. So I am not happy with that result.”
“For me I think it is very important to play the final. This time I don’t want to just play the final, I want to win.” Chelsea have struggled in the final third this season. The Blues have scored the least number of goals compared to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs.
Chelsea will be hoping the ban overturns and they can sign some attacking players. However if they want to lure Jovic, they would know it won’t be an easy job. The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City all are keen to lure him and Chelsea will be finding it tough to sign him.
