New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri’s life at the Stamford Bridge has had a successful start as the Blues comfortably won all of their first four Premier League ties.
Currently sitting second on the table, Chelsea have been tipped as a title contender but Sarri believes that two other sides are strong contenders as well.
Although Chelsea entered last season on the back of a title win in the 2016/17 campaign, the Blues weren’t able to hold onto their crown. In fact, the defenders had a very poor season that they even failed to finish in the top four of the table.
This resulted in the club sacking Italian manager Antonio Conte only to be replaced by another Italian. Chelsea confirmed Maurizio Sarri as their new manager ahead of the season. The 59-year-old brought Jorginho from Napoli with him and he also added Mateo Kovacic and Kepa Arrizabalaga to the squad.
Chelsea began their life under Sarri with a solid 3-0 win over Huddersfield. The win was followed by another one. This time it was against the club’s derby rivals, Chelsea. Another two more wins saw them sit second on the Premier League points table, with Liverpool ahead of them on goal difference.
The Blues’ impressive start to their campaign has seen many people backing them to go on and win the league. However, Sarri thinks that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will provide him with tough competition.
“Manchester City are in their third year with Guardiola and can aim not only to win the title again but also the Champions League. And then there’s Liverpool, who have made great progress with Klopp,” Sarri told the Daily Star.
Author’s Take:
Sarri is spot on with his statement as Manchester City and Liverpool are also strong contenders for the league title. It is quite certain that even Guardiola and Klopp will be thinking the same.
