After Neymar, PSG has set their sights on another one of Lionel Messi’s teammate
Marc Andre Ter Stegen is the latest name to be linked with a big-money move to the French capital. The German was initially brought in as an understudy to Claudio Bravo at the Camp Nou. However, since the Colombian’s departure, Ter Stegen has staked his claim as the No.1 for Barcelona’s all-conquering side. He has fought off competition from Jasper Cillisen and is now rated among the best ‘keepers in the world.

Meanwhile, Les Parisiens have struggled with their goalkeeping situation. Neither Alphonse Areola nor Kevin Trapp are good enough for a Champions League winning side. They are the weakest link in PSG’s expensively assembled squad. Consequently, they are targeting Marc Andre Ter Stegen. Diario Gol is reporting that Lionel Messi has come to know about PSG’s interest in the 25-year-old.
The Argentine is reported to be indifferent to the speculations considering he is very well versed with Ter Stegen’s strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately, however, Messi’s opinion might not matter due to the presence of a release clause in the ‘keeper’s contract which is worth a whopping €150 million.
Barcelona is adamant that if PSG wants Ter Stegen, then they will have to pay up the entire €150 million. Unlike Neymar’s situation, the French giants might be reluctant to stump up such a huge fee for a goalkeeper.
Paris Saint-Germain flexed their financial muscle in the summer with the capture of Neymar, showing the world that no player is beyond their reach. Undoubtedly, improvement is needed between the sticks at Parc Des Princes. However, there are other ‘keepers available in the market that’ll cost less than Ter Stegen, most notable among them being Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Roma’s Alisson.
