Lionel Messi has asked Barcelona to not sign the midfield maestro they were looking for since some while. It does not look like his suggestions will go well through Ernesto Valverde.
Barcelona have been in the transfer market looking to replace Andres Iniesta who left the club after the end of last season. The Catalans have landed the signatures of Arturo Vidal, Arthur and Malcom but none of them can really be considered as a replacement for a legendary player like Iniesta.
Among the shortlisted names was also France international Paul Pogba. The 25 year old has been widely linked with a transfer out of Manchester United after persistent news of him having fallen apart with his manager- Jose Mourinho. The Frenchman has also been employed in a much defensive role by Jose and has not been able to deliver at his best.
Mino Raiola had apparently offered Pogba to Barcelona in the month of August, but by that time it was too late for the France international to make a switch to the Camp Nou. It was something that all Barcelona fans had been looking forward to but El Blaugrana will now have to work on a move in January at the earliest.
However, there is one entity in the club who does not want Paul Pogba at the club- Lionel Messi. The Barcelona captain believes that Pogba’s social lifestyle and attitude will tarnish the dressing room atmosphere in the Camp Nou and make it very casual, thus making Barca a lesser competitive outfit.
Pogba already has a notorious reputation of being the ‘social media king’ at Manchester United as is visible through his endless activity of Instagram primarily, even at the AON Training Complex.
While Lionel Messi is thought to have a say in matters related to transfers, it would be best if the Argentina international sticks to playing football rather than suggesting negatives to the board. Pogba has been a hit at the attacking roles which have been available to him in France and Manchester United and will continue to kill it if he comes to Barcelona- thanks to Busquets’ unassailable presence at defensive midfield.
