Messi astounded as Barcelona star “agrees terms” with Manchester United

Barcelona ace Samuel Umtiti has reportedly agreed to terms with United, much to the frustration of Leo Messi.

The Argentine playmaker has been adamant to not let his fellow team-mate slip through their ranks, but recent reports suggest otherwise. Umtiti appears ever closer to Manchester United after reportedly agreeing on a move to the Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho was eager to sign a defender to partner Eric Bailly at the back.

Umtiti has reportedly agreed to terms with Manchester United.

Current United pair of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling look nowhere near fulfilling their initial promise. As a consequence, United landed Victor Lindelof last summer, but the Swede is still adjusting to life in England. Therefore a move for Umtiti made pure sense as he has a release clause worth £54m which would be an absolute steal, considering that Liverpool signed Virgil Van Dijk for £75million.

Meanwhile, much to the frustration of Lionel Messi, the Frenchman is seriously considering a switch to England. Some reports even claim that he has already made his intentions clear of joining the Red Devils.

Samuel Umtiti causing troubles at the Camp Nou?

The 24-year-old has developed into one of the most consistent defenders since signing from Lyon. He has been everpresent for the Blaugrana, leading to widespread interest from across the continent. United boss Mourinho is known to be an admirer and wants to land Umtiti at all costs.

According to Diario Gol, United have told the Frenchman that they will double his current salary if he moves to the Theatre of Dreams. They have also found him a house in Manchester in a bid to lure him already. However, the battle is not lost for the Blaugrana as Umtiti has issued them an ultimatum.

He has reportedly asked his bosses to double his current salary. Diario Gol, suggest that the player even said: “I’m going to the Premier [League]” if that request is not met.” He is on a €4m-a-year salary package, which would rocket to a staggering €8 million if Barcelona implies to it.

And Lionel Messi who sees Umtiti a cornerstone for Barcelona’s future has urged his bosses to pay him what he wants. The Frenchman clearly has his best years ahead of him, which is why both United and Barcelona are in a tug of war for the defender. With the Red Devils lurking it would be wise for the Blaugrana to heed to the 24-year-old’s demands.

Author’s Take:

The Umtiti Pique partnership has been rock solid so far this season. Messi certainly sees the Frenchman as untouchable and thereby wants his side to tie the defender down as soon as possible. The decision is Josep Maria Bartomeu’s to take, but I certainly feel they will not let a world class player slip through their ranks.
