Messi blames his attacking-partner for cup defeat and wants him sold

Barcelona’s 29 games unbeaten streak came to a bitter end against local rivals Espanyol and Messi has blamed his team-mate for the loss.

The Catalans lost their first game since August after Oscar Melendo scored an 88th-minute goal in the Copa Del Rey quarterfinals. The Catalans played with Messi and Aleix Vidal in the attack but could not put the ball past Diego Lopez. The shot-stopper also saved Argentine’s penalty to sum up the miserable game for Valverde’s men.

Aleix Vidal Out?

Lionel Messi is reportedly unhappy with Aleix Vidal after Spaniard’s poor performance at the RCDE Stadium. Diario Gol has reported that the Argentine wants the board to sell Vidal as soon as possible. Messi was unhappy with Vidal’s inability to create chances and failing to combine with the team-mates.

The 28-year old was handed a rare start by Ernesto Valverde as Luis Suarez started on the bench. But the winger looked out of position and lacked the creativity with the ball at his feet. For Messi, right-back Sergi Roberto played a crucial role in attacking than Vidal.

Aleix Vidal has been linked with a move back to Sevilla since the start of January. But there have been no further updates as Sevilla has not approached for the player yet. The Spaniard has failed to settle down at the Camp Nou since his move back in 2015.

Valverde’s men had a night to forget at Espanyol as they could not score a goal despite dominating the possession. The title holders will now have to turn the 1-0 deficit in the return leg at the Camp Nou. Before another Catalan derby, Barcelona will face Real Betis away from home and will hope to continue their unbeaten streak in La Liga.

Author’s Take:

Aleix Vidal has failed to do the justice to red and blue strips of Barcelona jersey and we all know that. If the reports are to be believed, the Spaniard might leave Camp Nou in the coming days. But it is hard to believe that Messi will blame someone else when he had an average game himself and also missed a penalty. But it won’t be a Barca news if Messi’s name isn’t involved in it, will it?
