Lionel Messi offered his views regarding the Champions League last 16 clash against Lyon when he picked up his Fifth Golden Shoe on Tuesday evening.
Lionel Messi has hit top form this season scoring 14 goals in 14 appearances and bagging 10 assist to his name. He is the most influential player for the Catalan giants this season. Messi has 41 key passes and 34 shots on goal which is staggering considering the fact that this is the half way point of the season. And if Messi is able to continue his form there is no one stopping him from winning the next years Ballon d’Or .
Lyon are really looking good in the Champions league and they surprised most of us with their stellar performances against Manchester City. Bruno Genesio’s men have individual brilliance which can make a difference in any moment of the match.
When asked about the tie with Lyon, Messi replied that “Lyon was not the strongest name, but it will be complicated,” ”They were equal when they played Manchester City; they will be difficult to advance against.
Messi even stated that a lot of things might happen between now and February and it will be tough for both teams to compete at the same through out. Both teams might even miss crucial players due to injuries, nothing can be predicted in football.
Barcelona will play the first leg in Lyon on February 19 with the return leg on March 13. Even though Barcelona are favourites to win the tie it won’t be that simple because Lyon have surprised quite a lot in the competition and might as well upset the Barca fans.
Barcelona are firm favourites for this tie and its quite obvious that they will reach the last 8 easily but Lyon are a difficult side in terms of the performances and surprises they offer. Even though this tie looks one sided I am expecting a great game of football.
