Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards feels that Arsenal’s new signing is under scrutiny. Richards questions Gunners on signing the young central defender from France this summer. Mikel Arteta added several new players to his roster in his journey to the Premier League title. He took the side to a brilliant start in the Premier League and in the pre-season as well.
Arteta’s side won the Community Shield against Liverpool before the Premier League kicked-off. The Premier League Champions were favorites to win the shield but Arsenal took away the title. The game went on to Penalties and youngster Rhian Brewster failed to convert the penalty from the spot. Aubameyang and co-won the Community Shield title to kick-start their new season.
Arsenal signed some top signings this summer likes Gabriel Magalhaes and Willian. They did manage to sign prime target Thomas Partey as well before the deadline. Uruguayan defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira went another way to Atletico Madrid. Both Willian and Gabriel had a good start to their new campaign with Gunners.
The Ghanaian midfielder made his debut for Arsenal against Manchester City yesterday. However, he got to play only eight minutes last night. Thomas Partey can provide stability in the midfield, which is currently being done by Xhaka. Xhaka was under a lot of speculation for not doing well in the centre of the park. This addition can really be an advantage for Arteta.
Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes signed in favor of the Gunners this summer. The 22-year-old centre-back is one of the stand-out defenders last term. The left-footed central defender lured a lot of interests this summer. Arteta’s side won the race to seal the deal for the defender. The centre-back opened his account on his very first game for Arsenal in Premier League.
Gabriel Magalhaes vs Manchester City
Gabriel made to the starting eleven against Manchester City in the Premier League clash this weekend. The defender was accompanied by his fellow Brazilian David Luiz. This happened after the announcement of the squad lineup when Rob Holding got himself injured in the training. David Luiz then came on to replace the injured Holding in the starting eleven.
Gabriel has til now made four appearances in the Premier League this season. After the dream starts scoring a goal on his debut in Premier League, Brazilian is yet to find the net since then. It also raised hopes among the fans to expect more from the defender. The 22-year-old has age on his side and can only improve under former Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
Gabriel Magalhaes started on the left side on the heart of the defense as usual with David Luiz on his right. It all went fine until Sterling’s goal in the first half to put the Blues into the lead. Gabriel and his defense were put under pressure by the City attack. Argentine Sergio Aguero played after three months coming after the injury ran through Arsenal defense in the middle. He then slid the ball to Phil Foden, who cut it past Bellerin to Leno.
German goalie Leno spilled the ball for Raheem Sterling to slot into the net. The Citizens took the lead early in the first half to put more pressure on Arsenal. The scoreline read the same 1-0 at the end of full time as well. Gabriel Magalhaes had two shots on goal being a central defender. He also won two ariels against Manchester City.
Micah Richards on Gabriel Magalhaes
Former West Ham and Manchester City defender Richards said to The Daily Mail that, he isn’t convinced about the new signing. He said: “Arsenal’s defense still bothers me (is Gabriel the right standard?) but it is evident they are moving in the right direction.”
Richards added that “Though I grew up in Leeds, Arsenal were my team as a kid so I was never going to miss any chance to see them live. This particular Saturday, 17 years ago, I had been playing for City’s academy in the morning and then headed over to the old stadium.”
“I thought it would be a long way back for Arsenal but it has proven to be anything but. Nobody is laughing at Arsenal now and, for that, the credit belongs to Mikel Arteta. The start he has made to his managerial career is outstanding – and it is not just because he has won two trophies.”
“He has taken everything great from Pep Guardiola and then put his own twist on things. He has instilled discipline and made it clear there will be no messing around – just look at the way he has dealt with issues such as Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi.”
