The pressure is piling up for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. In the wake of the club’s dreadful run, many believe that the Spaniard’s days are just numbered at the club. The club is in shambles at the moment. The Gunners are trying to get out of the dark zone.
However, nothing good came for them except for bad results. Former Arsenal legends, pundits, and fans are really worried about the current state of the club. They are languishing at 15th place in the points table. The Gunners managed to secure just 14 points from 14 games this season.
The Gunners were handed yet another defeat at home. They were far from being impressive in the EFL Cup quarter-final match against Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s boys rubbed salt on Arsenal’s wounds by netting a record 4 goals and conceded just 1.
Apart from Alexandre Lacazette, there was no positive intent from the Arsenal players. Gabriel Martinelli gave the fans a ray of hope by giving an assist to Arsenal’s equalizer in the first half.

However, the youngster picked up another injury and walked off the turf after playing just 2 minutes in the second half. Arsenal never looked like making a comeback as they kept on conceding goals frequently.
As a result, they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Manchester City at home. Meanwhile, former Arsenal winger Perry Groves reckons that Mikel Arteta has just a couple of games to save his job at the club.
Arteta talks about Saliba’s future at Arsenal
Arsenal manager confirmed that William Saliba is in advanced talks with Arsenal Football Club over leaving on loan next month. This means that the 19-year-old young player will not play a further part in the ongoing season.
The youngster who is not yet named in the matchday squad is likely to move on loan to France next month. The £28million signing from Saint Etienne didn’t play against Man City on Tuesday night.
The 19-year-old has also been restricted to match appearances for the Under-23’s this season. He has had personal issues earlier on in the season. Arteta addressed the reporters at the post-match press conference after a 1-4 defeat against Man City. The Arsenal boss was asked why Saliba was not involved against Man City.
“He cannot be involved because he’s not in the squad,” Arteta added. “We made that decision with him and we’ll see what we’re going to do in January. We are talking about it [loan move] yes,” the manager said.
The Gunners take on Chelsea
Arsenal will play against Chelsea on Boxing Day at The Emirates. After a 2-1 win over Sheffield United at The Emirates in late October, the Gunners didn’t secure a single win at home.
Their last away win came against Man United at Old Trafford in late November. Chelsea who beat Arsenal at The Emirates last season will be looking forward to repeating the same formula this time.
