Willian’s impressive debut against Fulham last weekend has given a boost for Arteta’s favorite 3-4-3 formation at Arsenal.
Arsenal is currently has a good season under Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard is keen to take this club to the glory and next level. Having signed a number of star players ahead of the new season, Arteta is working on his tactics. However, he still wants to add much more strength to his squad with the signings of Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar. Although, both the deals are so far from happening with the asking price still the same.
Arsenal submitted an initial bid for the most-wanted midfielder in Europe to Lyon. The bid included Frenchmen Matteo Guendouzi, whose future is uncertain at the Emirates. Guendouzi’s attitude didn’t attract Arteta and he wants to offload the midfielder this summer. However, Lyon Sporting director has openly mentioned that they aren’t more into Guendouzi.
The club might change track to sign some young prodigies this summer rather than spending on big names. One of the players who are on the radar of Londoners is Dijon’s winger Chouiar. The winger was not in the squad last weekend. This has made the club’s decision to sell him this summer. Alongside Arsenal, Wolves and Leeds United are also keen in his signature.
The youngster is known for his pace and being called as one of the next big things in European football. He could be the Djion’s biggest sale in their history this summer. However, it’s too early for the youngster to make his debut in the Premier League. Although, his caliber can suit some of the clubs like Wolves and Leeds United.
While Arsenal are in fine form from their Community Shield win over Liverpool. With the same form displayed against Klopp’s Liverpool, Arsenal traveled to Fulham. The side kept on attacking from the first whistle with a 3-4-3 system. However, the side adapted to the formation and gelled-well with Brazilian winger Willian Borges.
Willian Borges’ impressive performance on his debut
Arsenal did have a good start to their Premier League campaign 2020-21. The Gunners got off to a brilliant start with the support of their wingers under 3-4-3 formation. Willian Borges displayed ab impressive game as he assisted all three goals scored last Saturday. The Brazilian winger caught everyone’s attention with his flair from the wing. The 32-year-old winger arrived at Emirates on a free transfer from their rivals Chelsea this summer.
As you can see, Arsenal dominated the left side of the field with Tierney, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, and Aubameyang. Switzerland international linked up well with in-form Maitland-Niles to overload the defense. Arsenal created 4 lines down the left to help break down Fulham. While Willian was progressing on the right flanks waiting for the right ball to cross on.
Xhaka had more space and time in the middle to thread the ball to the Gabon striker. Aubameyang was making perfect runs into the box with good balls from his fellow midfielders. Frenchmen Lacazette played the number 9 role for the Spaniard Arteta. He did find the net from Willian’s ball into Lacazette’s feet.
Willian pierced through the Fulham’s defense which was aggressive and wide positioned. This paved way for Willian to move forward with pace. Although, the Swiss international deserves credit, who got involved in all of Arsenal’s attacks. Xhaka made himself enough time and space to play the ball. While, Fulham could’ve played Mitrovic in place of Kamara, who didn’t anticipate much.
Arteta’s praise for Brazilian winger
Arteta quickly heaped praise of the Brazilian winger after his brilliant debut. ‘Some players when that happens [a good performance], they have a full stomach. With Willian, I got the opposite feeling, that he wanted more. He wanted a different club and get to the level he was at, at the previous one.
‘So I’m really pleased because he showed how much he wants it and how much he’s going to try to achieve that,’ Arteta said after the match.
He also added that- “We expect it [to rub off on the team]. We need a mix. We have a lot of young players with a big talent and big future but they need some role models. I think Willian is a really good one to have around the place. He doesn’t talk much in the dressing room but he always talks on the pitch and that’s a good way to do it.”
