Real Madrid’s defender Marcelo is of the belief that it’s a shame Mourinho being sacked
Real Madrid defender Marcelo Vieira opined that it is a “shame” Jose Mourinho has been dismissed as coach of Manchester United and acclaimed his work at Manchester. Jose was sacked by Manchester on Tuesday after some terrible form left the club sixth in the premier league table and 19 points away from Liverpool
Mourinho assisted Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013 and has been in talks for a return to the European champions, most recently following the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui in October. The decision to sack Mourinho will cost more than £18m, has been taken in the long-term interests of United with a view that the club is bigger than any one individual.
Mourinho is understood to have wanted his own structure, but the new manager will be appointed with a head of football above him reporting to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. When asked about Mourinho’s exit from United, Marcelo said on Tuesday, “It’s a shame because he is a great coach, who is without a club. Whether he returns to Madrid is not up to me. He has done great things for Real Madrid.”
Santiago Solari was selected as Lopetegui’s replacement and has governed nine victories from his 11 matches in charge. Solari was given a contract until June 2021 but that has not prevented speculation about a possible return for Mourinho. “I cannot worry that there is speculation about Madrid,” Solari said. “That happens every day.”
The Portuguese took over in May 2016 and led United to League Cup and Europa League titles, but they are 19 points behind league leaders, Liverpool. The club has made a change after no progress with results or style despite spending nearly £400m on 11 players. According to the players say the new manager will understand the philosophy of the club, including their attacking tradition.
