Mourinho praises his players for ‘professional performance’

United, the reigning champions of the league cup, got their tournament campaign off to a flying start with a comfortable victory over Championship side Burton.

Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on his players for what was a “professional performance” as Manchester United cruised to a 4-1 win over Burton Albion.

Marcus Rashford got on the scoresheet with two goals with Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial also getting in on the act.
They were unable to keep a clean sheet with Lloyd Dyer scrambling home a consolation goal in the dying minutes.

MOURINHO’S PRAISE FOR THE PLAYERS

Portuguese manager praised his side for their display and is enjoy watching United play at the moment.
“Professional performance, we played seriously, we gave them no chance,“ Mourinho said.
“Everybody is happy, no injuries and no cards. They lost with dignity and we won, which was our objective.
“Everyone is ready to play and wants to use the minutes on the pitch to improve.
“The team collectively enjoyed the game.
Martial was man of the match
“Martial was good, Mata was good, Lingard was good.
 “We look happy playing football at this moment, that’s what I like.”

MOURINHO QUESTIONS LEAGUE CUP’S IMPORTANCE

The United manager made nine changes but still fielded a strong side as the holders beat Championship side Burton 4-1 on Wednesday night.

 Mourinho told BBC Radio 5 live: “If you ask me ‘could English football survive or be even be better without this competition?’ Maybe.

“Maybe we would be fresher for European competition.”

“If the competition is an official competition then it is important for Manchester United and for me as a manager,” Mourinho added.

“I want the players to think the same way. We have this competition, we have to respect the sponsors, we have to respect the opponents and a lot of us are trying to do our best.

“If we can win it, we win it. If we don’t win it, it’s because the opponents are better than us.”

Manchester United cruised an easy win against championship side Burton Albion in the third round of Carabao cup. Mourinho was full of praise for his players for ‘professional’ performance at Old Trafford. Now United have been drawn away to Swansea in the fourth round. The Reds now have two away trips of Southampton and CSKA Moscow in next six days.
