The former Arsenal manager has good relationship with PSG chief over the years.
Arsene Wenger is out of a job since May. The Frenchman stepped down as manager of Arsenal after being in charge of 22 years. Since then Arsene has been linked with the managerial position at various other clubs. He has been linked to managerial position at Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris-Saint-Germain. Having addressing the rumors regarding being the next manager of Real Madrid, It seems Wenger may get hired by Ligue 1 leaders. Nasser Al-Khelaifi has made a statement regarding Arsene Wenger to PSG.
Arsene Wenger will not be joining Paris Saint-Germain as the club’s sporting director, president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has confirmed. Ex-Arsenal boss Wenger, 68, is without a job since leaving the Gunners after 22 years last summer. But the Frenchman has stated on a number of occasions that he has no intention of retiring yet, and continues to be heavily-linked with a role upstairs at the Parc des Princes. Wenger has been touted as a possible replacement for Antero Henrique, who has been in the role since 2017. Henrique’s relationship with coach Thomas Tuchel has been up-and-down since the German’s arrival, notably with differences of opinion over transfer policy and the ongoing Adrien Rabiot saga. That has led to continued speculation that the ex-Atletico Madrid man could be replaced, with reports this week that PSG chief Al-Khelaifi has met with Wenger in Doha.
However, the former tennis pro insists those suggestions are wide of the mark. Henrique’s attitude in transfer dealings has also been criticised by other clubs, particularly Bayern Munich. He told Le Parisien, ”
I have very good relations with Arsene. I’m close to him and I’ve known him for a long time. He is a wonderful manager and coach. He has a very sharp and very complete knowledge of football. But we have a sports director, Antero Henrique, in whom I have great confidence. I hear the media constantly say that Arsene will come to take this job. It’s too much. Let us work, please. Antero does a very good job. He will continue with us. He stays there.”
PSG are currently well on course to retain their Ligue 1 title, sitting 14 points clear of second place Lille – with two games in hand. Thomas Tuchel’s side have lost just once in the league this term. They also have one foot in the Champions League last eight, after a 2-0 win at Old Trafford in the first leg of their last 16 encounter.
Given Wenger’s desire to be in touchline it would have been a tough for
Nasser Al-Khelaifi to lure him as Director Role. Wenger has previously addressed his desire to be the manager and in the coming time we may see him in the touchline again.
