Kendrick Perkins Criticizes Kawhi Leonard’s Insufficient Playing Time

Kawhi Leonard will not play against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, according to the LA Clippers. He has been given the go-ahead to miss his 14th game of the season due to a left ankle strain. When it was revealed that Leonard will once more be benched, Kendrick Perkins couldn’t help but tweet:

“What the heck are we calling Kawhi Leonard, ‘Pajamas,’ if they’re calling AD [Anthony Davis]’ street clothes’? Really, dammit! Keep going”

Over the last three years, Anthony Davis has taken a lot of heat for his failure to maintain his health. Since joining the LA Lakers three years ago, he has only participated in 152 games, including this season. He has been criticized as being soft and referred to as wearing “street clothes” as a result of playing alongside LeBron James.

In contrast, Kawhi Leonard has only appeared in 114 games since joining Paul George and the LA Clippers after leaving the Toronto Raptors. Of the Clippers’ 18 games thus far this season, he has already missed 13.

Simply put, Kawhi Leonard hasn’t faced the same reaction as Davis because he rarely speaks and steers clear of any sort of controversy.

Kawhi Leonard was optimistic following the game against the Utah Jazz, in which he only played for 23 minutes, and claimed that he simply rolled his ankle. But the Clippers didn’t want to take any chances, so they quickly declared that he would miss time.

In a post-game interview following the Jazz game, coach Ty Lue referred to Kawhi Leonard’s ankle roll as “ugly.” It wasn’t shocking that the Clippers have formally ruled their superstar out given how they have been treating him.

Unsurprisingly, the LA Clippers are a different squad when Kawhi Leonard is available

When Kawhi Leonard is out, the Los Angeles Clippers have an offensive rating of 108.4, according to StatMuse. When the two-time MVP of the NBA Finals is active, that number rises to 109.7. Even while the rise might not seem significant, Kawhi Leonard has only been playing a small number of minutes, so that’s already something.

When the former two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year is available, the Clippers’ defense also improves a bit. They have a defensive rating of 109.9 with Leonard out and 109.0 with him in. Again, Leonard has only contributed a little more than 22 minutes over the course of five games.

Ty Lue is aware of Kawhi Leonard’s potential when he is healthy. He remains one of the NBA’s top two-way players and a successful player overall. He shouldn’t continue to experience foot and knee problems as the season progresses, according to the LA Clippers.
