Kyrie Irving Discusses Ben Simmons’ Management of a Raucous Philadelphia 76ers Crowd

Ben Simmons played well in his first game for Philadelphia following his February 2022 trade to the Brooklyn Nets, according to Kyrie Irving.

In the 106-115 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, Ben Simmons had a well-balanced performance with 11 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds, three steals, and three blocks in front of the hostile Philadelphia crowd.

When questioned about Ben Simmons’ response to the Philadelphia atmosphere, Irving responded:

I believe he performed nicely. Of course, we wanted to concentrate on our team’s victory. However, the multitude is immobile. It’s nice to hear their boos and loud shouts.

“Hopefully, that will spur us on a little bit more the next time to go out there and get the victory. We took the lead early in the first half before losing it, but I thought he played well.

When asked about Ben Simmons’ first game back against his old club, Kevin Durant was also questioned. When the Golden State Warriors visited the Oklahoma City Thunder in February 2017, Durant had a similar experience and shared it with the media.

“Everyone wants our team to lose. Ben is unpopular. Nobody is fond of Kyrie. Nobody enjoys me. Every road venue can be the same in that regard. Simply put, we have to deal with it. However, I felt Simons did a fantastic job managing and playing his game.

When asked about the response he received from the Philadelphia audience, Ben Simmons said, “I thought it was going to be louder”

When Ben Simmons made his Brooklyn Nets debut against his previous NBA club, he felt that the Philadelphia fans might have been much more hostile. During the post-game press conference, Ben Simmons discussed the response and stated the following: “Yes, I had anticipated a louder sound.”

It wasn’t all awful, either, for Ben Simmons. Before the game began, he exchanged greetings and signatures with some 76ers supporters. Simmons spoke to the media about the incident and said:

“Having support in Philadelphia was still good. It was incredibly great to realize that my devoted followers actually back me. That’s a pleasant sensation.”

“I believe I made some respectable decisions in Philadelphia. Since I don’t believe we all had horrible times, having moments like that was beneficial.”
