Andrew Wiggins’ prolonged absence from the Golden State Warriors was just addressed by Bob Myers. The Los Angeles Clippers visit the Dubs on Thursday, and Wiggins will miss his sixth straight game due to a personal family problem.

Wiggins won’t be out there for very long, according to Myers. The Warriors’ GM, however, was unable to provide anything on the personal issues Wiggins is now facing. On Wednesday’s “Steiny & Guru” episode of 95.7 The Game, he said the following (via Audacy):

“I don’t believe anyone is preparing for it. Nonetheless, we’ll let that stand on its own. That is not what is anticipated. I believe the question you are posing is this: Could he stay out for a very, very long time? It isn’t occurring, in my opinion.”

He continued: “I’m going to ignore that. Hopefully, he will say anything he wants to about it when he returns, which I don’t believe will be much given that it concerns his private life.”

Andrew Wiggins has always conducted himself professionally. Three times in his career—in 2015, 2017, and 2018—he has played all 82 games. He also played 81 games in the 2015–16 season, 73 of 82 games in 2018–19, 54 games in the covid-shortened 2019–20 season, 71 of 72 games in 2020–21, and 73 of 82 games in Golden State Warriors championship season.

It seems sensible that Myers and the Warriors think Andrew Wiggins will return soon given that his brief absence has largely been caused by injuries. He has been forced to miss five games as a result of this personal issue, starting with the Warriors’ 135-126 victory against the Wizards on February 13th.

Last season, Andrew Wiggins overtook Steph Curry as the second-best player on the Golden State Warriors. Especially defensively, Wiggins had an influence on both ends of the floor. Every night, Wiggins was tasked with defending the greatest player on the other side, and he excelled at it.

Andrew Wiggins shot 46.6% overall, including 39.3% from distance, and had a scoring and rebounding average of 17.2 and 4.5. Wiggins carried over that form into the playoffs and was one of the contenders for MVP of the championship game for his outstanding job of restricting Jayson Tatum.

This season, Andrew Wiggins made sure he continued to deliver for the Warriors. Wiggins has participated in 37 games, scoring 17.1 points per game on average and 5.0 points per game on 47.3% shooting, including a career-high 39.6% from 3-point range on 6.1 attempts.

The Warriors’ attempt to defend their championship this year depends heavily on Wiggins. Despite their ongoing struggles, Wiggins has been their most reliable player outside of Curry.
