If Draymond Green decides to break his contract with the Golden State Warriors, he will become a free agency at the conclusion of the current campaign.
According to recent speculations, Draymond Green may be playing for the reigning champs in his last season. He could choose to depart in the summer’s free agency.
There is a “very good” probability that Green might depart the Warriors, a Western Conference official told Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports. According to the executive, Draymond Green’s assault on Jordan Poole over the summer effectively ended his career with the team.
The executive stated, “There will be pressure to keep things together if they win a title again this year. “However, the preseason material with the punch undoubtedly placed the last nail in the coffin. He already had a significant likelihood of leaving due of his declining output and advancing age. It would be difficult to defend giving him $20 million a year.”
If he joins the open market the following year, Draymond Green will be 33. He is still among the league’s top defensive players despite his advanced age. Draymond Green’s basketball IQ and playmaking abilities may be helpful to teams searching for leadership.
The main issue with Green is that he could annoy other players. He has won the NBA championship four times and has won Defensive Player of the Year once.
By his standards, Green is enjoying a successful season, averaging 8.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 6.6 assists. The Steph Curry injury and the Golden State Warriors’ sluggish start to the season must both be overcome.
Speculation tying Draymond Green to the LA Lakers is denied
The LA Lakers are one of the groups connected to Green. The Lakers will have salary cap room the next year, and the four-time champion is close with LeBron James.
Since Draymond Green signed with Klutch Sports a couple of years ago, the LA Lakers have been mentioned often. It’s impossible to see Draymond Green leaving the Bay Area given that he has spent his whole career playing for the Golden State Warriors.
The encounter with Poole, however, could have altered everything for Draymond Green. In an interview with Marc J. Spears of Andscape, he denied the Lakers rumour while acknowledging the prospect of becoming a free agent.
Draymond Green said, “I never stated that. You may say anything you want. I don’t seem to respond too much to what others say, either. When I want to, I respond to situations. Just because someone said anything doesn’t force me to respond.”
