During His Time Playing Alongside Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson Speaks Up

Brandon Ingram “loves” to play with Zion Williamson. This statement was made by the power forward for the New Orleans Pelicans after he and Ingram both had double-doubles in Wednesday’s 129-110 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. During the post-game press conference, Zion Williamson said:

“There are times when the coach will, like, draw up a play – whether it’s late in the game or in one of those tough situations – we sorta glance at one other, and one of us catches it. I enjoy playing with B.I. He’s a fantastic guy.”

“I actually have like this unwritten vocabulary on the court, and you’ll see it. We just click. “The other just sort of understands to advise everyone on the outside, “Just get the heck out of the way.”‘ We always do it at the appropriate moment.”

Ingram ended with 17 points and 10 assists, while Zion Williamson scored a season-high 32 points and 11 rebounds against the Spurs. Williamson fired a very efficient 77.8% (14-of-18) from the field, which was his second-best shooting performance of the season. Ingram, meanwhile, recorded his first game with more than ten assists this year.

Williamson praised the Pelicans’ defense as the cause of their success when he was questioned about the team’s strong offensive performance.

“Our defense has been playing extremely well, and it has transferred over to our offense,” he said.

Can the New Orleans Pelicans have better postseason success with Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram?

Since their 2018 Western Conference semifinal loss to the Golden State Warriors. The New Orleans Pelicans have only made one postseason appearance. In the first round of the 2022 playoffs, the Pelicans put up a valiant fight against the Phoenix Suns. But ultimately fell to their opponents in six games.

Zion Williamson didn’t participate in the matchup with Phoenix. The Pelicans forward missed the whole 2021–22 regular season after suffering a foot ailment during the offseason. Williamson failed to return to the floor for the Pelicans. Even in the postseason, since his recovery took longer than anticipated.

Williamson talked about the trauma he had to cope with as a result of the accident in an interview with GQ magazine during the 2022 off-season. He stated:

“I can sit here and tell it, but nobody will really feel it the way I felt it. My foot was broken and I couldn’t miraculously repair it.”

Expectations are quite high in New Orleans now that Williamson is healthy and performing well for the Pelicans. The two former All-Stars will likely lead the Pelicans to a deep playoff run in 2023 with Brandon Ingram by their sides.
