Fred VanVleet knew that if he told NBA officials how unhappy he was, he could be punished. That possibility came to fruition on Thursday.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the NBA fined Fred VanVleet $30,000 for his remarks made during Wednesday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Charania said that the league took action against Fred VanVleet for his remarks.
Fred VanVleet contributed 13 points to Toronto’s loss (108-108) and the team’s overall record of 32-35. The Clippers only received 18 fouls, while the Raptors racked up 23, and Fred VanVleet was called for his ninth technical foul of the season.
Fred VanVleet said on Wednesday that he didn’t mind, that he’d accept punishment, and that he didn’t care about the situation.
In my perspective, Ben Taylor’s performance tonight was at an all-time low. I have a strong suspicion that out of the three officials, on the majority of nights, one or two of them will just totally botch the game.

Fred VanVleet Said That He Didn’t Mind, That He’d Accept Punishment

There have been a lot of games in a row like that. Naturally, it was difficult to come out on the losing end on Monday in Denver. You walk up tonight, competing reasonably furiously, and I receive bulls—t tech that dramatically transforms the dynamic of the game and the flow of play.”
A player for the Toronto Raptors named Scottie Barnes was called for a technical foul earlier this week as his team was competing against the Denver Nuggets with only 28 seconds remaining in the game. In the end, the Raptors lost by a score of 118-113.
Although the season got off to a rough start for Toronto, the team is currently sitting in eighth place in the Eastern Conference as the postseason draws closer.
On Friday, the Toronto Raptors will look to regain their momentum when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers (32-34), who are hosting the game.
